FIVE YEARS AGO TODAY ~

Five days after the birth of my granddaughter Averie, her mommy Tracy had a brain bleed. Today marks five years.

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Unique in her own way, baby Averie arrives. Her mommy not only gets to see her desire come to life and she gets to hold her. The bound begins of breast feeding and mothering. Little did she know it would only last for 5 days. Then she would be separated from her baby for days. When Tracy would come home, she wasn’t able to hold Averie because she only could lift 5 pounds. She stopped breast feeding because she had to take medication for her recovery. She couldn’t change a diaper or even take care of herself. Tracy now needed medication every two hours for 22 days. So much changed in such a short time.

As Tracy’s mom, my heart hurt for her. I knew how long she waited for the birth of a child and now things were taken away. Not only was she away from her child, stepsons and husband, but not knowing if she would live.

I will never forget Tracy’s 3 stepsons standing behind me at the door and I was holding the baby while the paramedics put Tracy into the ambulance. One boy said, is Tracy going to die. I only remember say no. But I didn’t know and I was so scared.

Tracy was flown by helicopter after her emergency room visit. We only knew she had a life threatening thing happenings. She would find out it was a brain bleed and as her mom, I just wanted to be there but knew the importance to help with her baby. Our family pulled together and took turns caring for the baby. Chad and his finance’ Ashley helped out. We felt the experience of family but also many friends who cared. Forever grateful to all.

Today, we celebrate the life of Tracy! Five years ago and she had to work hard to get to this place of life. The miracle was in the process of time. Her baby girl just had her 5th birthday, a swim unicorn party. A busy week of zoo and Jurassic-park life tour for Averie and Boden. Then the 4th of July parade and ended with ice cream time with Averie.

God is good and my heart feels tears of a grateful heart that I have my baby girl Tracy and she has her baby girl Averie. Thank you God. A new day, a new beginning and grateful for life.
