FATHER’S DAY 2023

Bible:

Exodus 20:12

Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”

Story of a father:

A little boy who felt the want of a father in his life. He lived with his grandparents from birth to about the age of six. One day, his parents came to visit and he cried to go with them. His parents said yes and he lived with them until he turned 18 years old.

The little boy was taught about Jesus by his grandparents. The family moved to a different town and a church was right down the street. A revival took place and the little boy was now a teenager. He asked his mom to go and she gave her heart to God. The next night he asked his dad to go. The dad gave his heart to God. This boy let God use his life and his family was changed. His parents no longer drank alcohol and that changed the family to good.

This teenager respected his grandfather. He taught him to work for money and mowed lawns at a young age. His name is Terry and we became friends in 1973 and married in 1977.

We took a 23 and me DNA test. Those results revealed that Terry’s biological father wasn’t his father or was he? Terry would hold the name Nance by his birth certificate, but biological dad would be Thornhill. This started many questions and wonder. Yet, the bottom line was DNA holds the truth.

I saw Terry cry and process the truth about a father and a dad. The name Nance is, the name of a man who claimed me as his son. His biological may not even know he exists. Terry found a sister through this who they talk and he has learned a lot. He is so grateful for her and I am too. Terry thanks God for both men, because no matter what happened in the past, God chose these men for a reason to be his Fathers. We give honor to both.

I give honor to my husband on this Father’s Day too. Terry has been a good dad to our kids and grandkids. Such a hard worker and there to help others. He prays and trusts God.

As for my dad, he died when I was 18 years old and I miss him. It’s been 50 years and Father’s Day reminds me of him too. He gave his life to God just a few years before he died. I thank God for him.

I don’t know what you face today, but give honored to God that you were born and ready to service his will. Each of us go through hard stuff but God is right here. Our Father God cares and maybe life hasn’t turned out like we thought but he purposed us here on earth.

Happy Father’s Day
