Proverbs 22:6
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Some people don’t have kids, yet there are nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and little ones in your life. Each of us are an example to someone. It’s not just little kids that watch us but people who are around us.
Yesterday, I walked inside a starbucks that was filled with middle schoolers. I volunteered many times at their Elementary School. One boy said, “look it’s miss Sparkie”. Several kids turned to see me but they didn’t hold the excitement as this one kid. He remembered me listening to him and helping him in school. I saw that smile and I began to talk to him. Asking to keep up his school grades, sports and doing his best. He said he would.
I used to this the Bible verse meant train a child in God, but it says to train up in the way he should go. Let me stop there for a second. Trainer wants you to follow an example. Teaching what is best for you. I prayed over the children who were in classrooms and over teachers. Their job is teaching and training. Not an easy job with so many kids in a room.
Psalm 86:11
Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
Your example and my example makes a difference. Acts of kindness goes a far way. People might say there is something different about you. Well, it’s the Jesus people see through your life. That’s how I think and your kindness will come to mind years later. Yes, let’s train kids in God’s word and the example of Jesus.
I didn’t really know Jesus until I was in college. I got a job with a friend name June who began telling me about scriptures in the Bible. Her example let me see kindness and her faith. I was about 20 years old I think. So train up can begin at any age.
I remember my dad was not a Christian and didn’t get saved until his 50’s. I saw him change. I was a teenager but he quit drinking beer and he acted different. I really didn’t understand that but I watched him. Later, my mom said he gave his heart to God. Still not sure what that meant. As I grew older, I felt that change come into my life.
I hope this has helped you and pass it onto someone you know. Happy new day!
Blessings, Sparkie
